چکیده

In this paper, we show that prediction algorithms in the least mean square error sense prove better in a burst rather than in a packet switching network. For the latter, further information about the packet arrival distribution within the prediction interval is required. Regarding burst switching, we compare Optical Burst Switching networks with and without linear prediction to conclude that linear prediction provides a significant improvement in end-to-end latency with low bandwidth waste. Keywords— Internet performance analysis, traffic prediction, longrange dependence, short-range dependence, traffic measurement.

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

A new performability model for queueing and FDL-related burst loss in optical switching nodes

Optical packet and burst switching have been proposed for networks because of the increased demand for capacity to transport traffic generated by various applications at present and in future. In optical packet switching networks the payload and the header of a packet are conveyed in the same channel, while burst switching networks allow the separate transportation of the payload and the header...

New assembly techniques and fast reservation protocols for optical burst switched networks based on traffic prediction

We propose new burst assembly schemes and fast reservation (FR) protocols for Optical Burst Switched (OBS) networks that are based on traffic prediction. The burst assembly schemes aim at minimizing (for a given burst size) the average delay of the packets incurred during the burst assembly process, while the fast reservation protocols aim at further reducing the end-to-end delay of the data bu...

Traffic shaping for contention control in OBS networks

Traffic volume in the Internet continues to grow exponentially, which necessitates a transport network that can adapt to the increasing bandwidth requirements accordingly. The technology of choice for realizing such a transport network is optics. Nonetheless, optics does not provide a good support for packet switching, which has proven to be the most efficient method for transporting the varyin...

Optical Burst Switching (OBS): The Future Switching Technology

Due to broadband internet access and shifting of paradigm from voice to data services, the internet traffic has doubled every year [1]. Increasing demand for multimedia live streaming and other bandwidth hungry services is on its great pace. The Cisco census in Figure 1 shows that these bandwidth hungry applications like IPTV, video chat, VOD, video conferencing, e-commerce, online banking etc ...
